Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The article has not been previously published or sent to another journal.
  • The file has been formatted with the template provided in Microsoft Word, rtf or wordperfect.
  • Web pages or dois have been added in references where possible.
  • Authors have followed the template format and all illustrations, figures and tables are in the correct place in the text and not at the end of the document.
  • The text meets the bibliographic requirements indicated.
  • The text does not contain personal information or any other information that will make the blind peer review process difficult.
  • I declare that I have the capacity (individually or from my institution) to assume the payment of APCs set by the journal in case the article is approved for publication. If I do not assume the initial cost, I assume that my article will not be published.

Author Guidelines

Manuscript submissions

All the manuscripts should be sent through the electronic platform where the journal is based (Open Journal System). The article must be uploaded using the following doc template.

RIMCIS will not publish more than one article of the same authorship or co-authorship within 24 months period

Manuscripts not fulfilling the author guidelines will be rejected.

Since its foundation in 2012, RIMCIS has not charged Article Processing Charges (APCs) to the authors for the publication of their manuscripts. Despite the voluntary work that is carried out, the expenses associated with both the publication process and the necessary services for publication are not covered. From June 19th 2021, these processing charges should be covered by the authors once the articles are accepted. Thus, authors will pay 600 Euros(€) to cover these charges (plus 21% VAT only applicable to payments from institutions, companies, individuals and professionals residing in Spain; individuals residing in the EU, and companies, organizations and professionals residing in the EU without VAT Number).

 

Authors responsibilities:

  • Authors are expected to act according to the publication ethics international standards for authors developed by COPE during the 2nd World Conference on Research Integrity in Singapore in 2010. These are:
    • The research being reported should have been conducted in an ethical and responsible manner and should comply with all relevant legislation.
    • Researchers should present their results clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification or inappropriate data manipulation.
    • Researchers should strive to describe their methods clearly and unambiguously so that their findings can be confirmed by others.
    • Researchers should adhere to publication requirements that submitted work is original, is not plagiarized, and has not been published elsewhere.
    • Authors should take collective responsibility for submitted and published work.
    • The authorship of research publications should accurately reflect individuals’ contributions to the work and its reporting.
    • Funding sources and relevant conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
  • Authors are obliged to participate in the peer review process;
  • All authors have to contribute significantly to the research addressing a relevant topic in the area of the social sciences research from a multidisciplinary approach;
  • All authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes;
  • Authors are obliged to provide a list of references including the most relevant and current literature;
  • Submitted manuscripts should not be under consideration for publication in other journals.

 

Changes to authorship:

Authors are strongly advised to ensure the correct author group, and the order of authors at submission. Changes of authorship by adding or deleting authors, and/or changes in Corresponding Author, and/or changes in the sequence of authors are not accepted after acceptance of a manuscript.

 

Evaluation procedure:

When a manuscript is submitted, the editors screen the manuscripts to make sure that all the files have no identifying information on the authors and that the article has not been published elsewhere. Then, in a time period of 15 days maximum from the date of reception of the article, the journal editor will assign it to two external evaluators that will carry out a blind review of the article (double blind peer review). Over the review period of the article, both the names of the authors as well as the evaluators’ will be anonymous.

Peer reviewers are identified by editors of the journal, who are experienced researchers in their fields. The most suitable reviewers are selected according to the submission received and the reviewer’s expertise; also, authors are welcome to suggest suitable reviewers and/or request the exclusion of certain individuals when they submit their manuscripts. When suggesting reviewers, authors should make sure they are totally independent and not connected to the work in any way. It is strongly recommended to suggest a mix of reviewers from different countries and different institutions. When suggesting reviewers, the authors must provide an institutional email address for each suggested reviewer. Please note that the editors may not use the suggestions, but suggestions are appreciated and may help facilitate the peer review process.

The editors are in charge of exploring the reviewer’s reports and exchange opinions with some members of the editorial board in order to make a proper decision whether an article could be publishable or not. The decision is reached through the reviewers’ reports.

Editors check all the reviews done and contrast the reviewers’ notes with the content of the article before sending decisions and reviewers comment to authors. If reviewers do not carry out their duty correctly, editors will delete them from the list and send the article to another reviewer or to a member of the editorial board to carry out a fast-track review of the manuscript.

In cases where editors have doubts after the process of review, they double-check the evaluation with some members of the editorial board, according to their field of specialization, in order to reach an agreement and a decision on the manuscript.

The result of the evaluation will be sent to the authors in a maximum period of 3 months from the date of reception.

 

Guidelines for submission of articles 

In order to ensure originality of the received manuscripts, we recommend the authors to use programs of plagiarism detection. You can visit the following information on iThenticate: http://www.ithenticate.com/

The authors that send a manuscript to RIMCIS shall include their professional data and add their ORCID ID (If they have one) in the title page (see below). Those authors who do not have an ORCID ID, shall complete the ORCID registration process: http://orcid.org

Structure of the manuscripts

  • Title of the article, writen in the language of the article, English & Spanish (see template). 16 words max.
  • Abstract. It should be between 150 and 200 words and writen in the language of the article, English & Spanish (see template). It should present the scientific background for the research, the  object of the study, the methodology used and the main results and conclusions. 
  • 3-5 keywords that define the article and serve to identify the content of the article. They should be included in the language of the article, English & Spanish (see template)
  • Text of the article. Include all sections of the manuscript in the same document to the extent possible. 
  • Acknowledgements and/ or Source of Funding.
  • Notes. Avoid when possible. These should be placed after the acknowledgements and before the references, following the endnote format.
  • References. See citation style section below.
  • Separate documents may be uploaded for tables, figures, and appendices, if needed. In the case of submitting images, it is necessary to send them in jpeg format with the highest quality.
Title Page
A separate document will be added with the name of the authors (in order of signature), their affiliation, ORCID ID and email address. Please indicate who is the corresponding author. When this information is not complete or a Title page is not submitted, the article will be desk-rejected.

Citation Style
Manuscripts should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA style, 7th edition). Please remove all automatic referencing features from the document and ensure that in text citations and references are text. Furthermore, do not copy the text in the source format and adapt it to the template format.

Lenght
The manuscripts submitted should have and extension between 4.000 and 8.000 words, including the title, abstract, acknowledgements, notes, references and annexes.

Format
The manuscripts should be presented in the format MS Word or RTF, following the template provided above. All text should be in Times New Roman, 11-point font and 1,15 spaced. Only the titles of page 1 and page 2 will be in 20-point. Do not modify the bold font and the purple color in the template. 

Source of funding
In the case that the research from which the article has been developed has received funding. The name of the agency and the project code must be indicated both in the specific section in the article submission form and in the article itself, in the acknowledgement section.

Notes 
These should be avoided when possible. Notes will appear after the acknowledgements and before the references. They shall not be placed as footnotes.

Abbreviations
The only abbreviations that can be used are those universally accepted.

Gender equality

  • Follow the indications of the guide APA 7th edition for the use of an inclusive language in the writing of the article.
  • Include the full name of the authors who sign the article.
  • RIMCIS recommends authors to indicate in the methodology section of their articles if the source data of the research takes sex and/or gender into account, in order to allow the identification of possible differences.

Authorship
Authors should avoid disclosing their identity. The name of the author(s) must not appear on any page of the manuscript (this information must not be completed in the word template in the time of submission). Author information will be included in the Title Page and the electronic platform: all authors must be listed in the online platform at the time of submission, including their full name, their affiliation, ORCID ID, postal address and electronic address. When this information is incomplete, the submission will be desk-rejected.

Contribution to the preparation of the article
Information on the specific contribution of each of the authors of the submitted article should be provided in a separate document to be attached to the submission. This document will indicate the specific contribution of each of them in the preparation of the article. 

Running title
On the first page a running title of less than 25 characters should be included. The title should be informative and specific to explain the meaning and aims of the work.

Language
Manuscripts can be written in Catalan, Spanish, French, English and German. Manuscripts submitted should be grammatically correct regardless of the language used. It is responsibility of the authors to ensure that the submitted manuscript follows the language standards required by the publication of the scientific journal. Authors are invited to use the language editing services.

Hipatia Press requires future authors to send the manuscripts with an excellent language edition. If the manuscript is written in a second or third language, it is recommended to first contact a language reviewing service to avoid grammar and style mistakes.

Hipatia Press magazines in the application of the current regulations on the protection of personal data, informs that all data entered in this magazine will be used exclusively for the purposes stated by the same and will not be available for any other purpose or any other person or entity.

This data, entered through forms, will be stored in automatic files under the responsibility of the Data Controller identified above.

How do we obtain your data?

Mainly, we obtain your data through the information you provide us with through forms such as the registration process of the magazine or the aggregation of contributors in the article. This information is name, surname, affiliation, country, and email address. Optionally, you can also provide us with your telephone number, postal address, biographical summary, ORCID, and image.

Purpose

Your data will be used in connection with the role you undertake in the magazine, but will generally be used for notification, management, and publication of submissions. This data will not be shared with third parties and will always be visible to the editors and administrators of the magazine.

The journal has different roles, which are grouped into the following: Reader, Author, Reviewer, and Editor. Given that the purpose of the data depends on the role exercised in the journal, we show below the purpose of each of them:

  • Reader: the data will be used for identification and notification of new numbers (the latter only in case the user allows notifications).
  • Author: in addition to identification and notification, your data will be used for article management purposes by the editor. Once the article has been accepted and published, the name, surname, affiliation, ORCID, and biography will be indexed in the journal's databases and visible to the journal's readers and visitors, according to the signed agreement.
  • Reviewer: due to the blind review, reviewers will at no time have access to the author's personal data. Your personal data will be consulted by the editors in order to be selected in the review process.
  • Editor: The editor's personal data (first name, surname, affiliation, and country) are visible on the "Editorial Team" page for identification purposes.
  • Administrator: the administrator of the magazine is a single role held by the Hipatia Press technical team. This role is not involved in the editorial activity and can consult and edit all incoming data in the system for management purposes and to solve technical problems.

Retention period of your personal data

In general, the personal data provided by the user will remain in the database, unless the user expressly requests otherwise. In the latter case, we will apply the rights arising from the data processing. 

Recipients of personal data

In general, the data entered will be used for the identification and management of the system. Users who are not involved in the publication process, such as readers, their data will be used for notification purposes, the recipient of the data being the technological system itself, which will process them for this purpose.  On the other hand, active users, such as authors or reviewers, the main recipients are the journal editors who will use their data for notification, identification, and management of the publication process.

It should also be noted that some data will be published on the journal's website, in which case the recipients will be the visitors themselves. In the case of editors, their personal data (name, surname, affiliation, and country) will be displayed on the "Editorial Team" page for identification purposes. On the other hand, in the case of authors, their personal data (name, surname, affiliation, ORCID, and biography) will be visible on the page of the final published article, as indicated in the signed agreement.

Finally, in relation to the data of minors, an explicit contract from the minor's guardians is required in order to register and manage their data in the system.

Rights arising from the processing of personal data

Registered Hipatia users have the right to:

-        Access: request information on what personal data the system stores and the processing applied.

-        Ratification: request the rectification of personal data.

-        Opposition: you may oppose the processing of personal data, unless it is strictly necessary for the editorial process, as indicated in the regulations. With the exception of published articles, which are covered by the Hipatia Press Association Policy, https://hipatiapress.com/hpjournals/index.php/generos/editorial/autoria.

-        Suppression: you can request the suppression of your personal data as long as it does not affect the articles published according to the agreement signed.
